Summary of Act V

The Final act of the play Hamlet commences with two clowns, who are grave diggers, argue about the person who is about to be buried and how that person was and discuss whether the person who is to be buried deserves a proper "catholic burial" or a "suicide burial." Soon after Hamlet and Horatio join them and one of the clowns and Hamlet have a friendly spar about the deceased person to be buried and wether the person is actually considered a person even if after death. Hamlet saw the skull of Yorick the previous Jester and Hamlet takes the skull and explains how things and great people in history eventually turn to dust. After this some mourners came in the scene (Claudius Gertrude and Laertes) carrying Ophelia's body to the grave while Hamlet and Horatio hide while watching them bury Ophelia and Laertes jumps in the grave claiming to have loved Ophelia better than anybody else and moments after Hamlet jumps in saying that only he has loved Ophelia more than him. Laertes wants to fight Hamlet but Claudius reminds Laertes to "stick to the plan".
